World Cup...
In Canada and the US World Cup fever isn't too strong, especially for those born here, but I love watching the World Cup all the same. My coworkers think I'm crazy, and some of the people at Sports Check know me because I go in so often during work to watch some of the games. I was hoping that Portugal would beat France today, even though I'm wearing my French jersey, but it wasn't to be. I'm excited to see the France vs. Italy match on Sunday!

The last hurrah for Zidane! What a way to end a career. Come out of retirement to lead your country's football squad through the qualifier games and then on to the world cup final. I hope he gets one more world cup to end his career.

Out in BC there aren't many Canadian born people watching the world cup? What gives? Our office is watching the thing live on our computers (productivity is at a very low level).

Sigh. I remember the good old days when the Vancouver Whitecaps won the NASL Championship and all of BC went nuts. Okay that dates me pretty badly :(

Yah, I'm surprised that France has made it this far, especially after coming in second after Switzerland in the round robin section. I guess they're finally gelling as a team.
There are some people out here who love the WC (i.e. my mom), but I think that most people don't really care. It's probably different in Vancouver, especially along Commercial Drive where people dress up and party for any win or loss for any team that's playing.
